Electronic Etching Workshop

I use software to design patterns and an inexpensive die-cutting machine to cut the designs out of self-adhesive vinyl that becomes the resist for etching metal.

I place the prepared metal in an etching solution and connect it to a 12 volt battery. Most patterns can be etched in fewer than 30 minutes. The vinyl designs can be used on any metal. The results are amazing in precision, detail and depth. Attached are examples of things we have made using this technique. It is perfect for production work.

This is a one-day workshop in which you will etch and fabricate several items. I will explain how to make your designs using the computer software and will teach you how to prepare your metal, etch and fabricate your earrings. Beginning, intermediate and advanced metalsmithing students are welcome.

I have used this technique for jewelry and hollowware and are continually delighted to discover new applications that we will share with you in class.

COST: The tuition for the 1 day workshop is $125 which includes everything you need to etch several items using our new technique. I will supply copper and nugold. Those wanting to etch sterling silver will need to bring their own 22 to 24 gauge sterling sheet.
