So you’ve made the Honeycomb Bead and been introduced to tessellation as a three-dimensional art form. Are you wondering what’s next? Martha is offering a new workshop called Tessellation — Next Steps.
Objective Each student will design and fabricate a piece of flatware using a tessellation pattern of his or her choosing. There are many patterns to choose from. Each piece of flatware will use the same constructive technique but the handle and base will be unique. When you have completed this workshop you will have the knowledge and experience to make additional pieces of flatware uniquely your own. The possibilities are endless…large serving pieces, salad servers, desert forks, etc. You will learn new techniques that can also be applied to making jewelry, hollowware, or sculpture. Martha has collected antique flatware for years and will use the pieces in her collection as inspiration to help you design and fabricate your own piece.
